UCF Joins Statewide Tuition Hike for Out-of-State Students
Starting this fall, out-of-state tuition at the University of Central Florida is increasing by 10%, aligning UCF with Florida’s other four largest universities that recently approved similar hikes. The move, expected to generate $9.5 million in additional revenue for UCF next year, comes after limited recurring state funding and more pressure on budgets. While the University of Florida has introduced a temporary hardship waiver, UCF leaders emphasized that they’ll work to connect students with available financial aid. This is the first out-of-state tuition increase in Florida since 2012, marking a significant shift for non-Florida residents pursuing higher education in the state.

Fewer than 1% of cast members worldwide earn this distinction, which celebrates those who embody Walt’s values of “Dream, Create, and Inspire.” Surprised by colleagues and leaders during his shift, Willie reflected with gratitude: “I’m so joyful and grateful to receive The Walt Disney Legacy Award. FDOT Crosswalk Crackdown Puts Orlando Street Art at Risk
Florida’s decision to paint over non-standard crosswalks isn’t just impacting the Pulse Interim Memorial — it threatens Orlando’s street art culture as a whole. Local artist Justin “Skip” Skipper says the move erases more than paint; it erases identity and expression, particularly for queer and BIPOC communities. Known for murals like his jazz-inspired piece in College Park, Skip calls the crackdown a “bully tactic” and pledges to keep creating in defiance. With FDOT promising to cover painted crosswalks statewide, much of Orlando’s visual culture could disappear within weeks.
Orlando Rallies After Pulse Crosswalk Is Painted Over
In a late-night move, the State of Florida painted over the rainbow crosswalk outside Pulse, sparking outrage across Orlando. Mayor Buddy Dyer condemned it as “a cruel political act,” while Senator Carlos Guillermo Smith grabbed chalk and began sketching the rainbow back on Orange Avenue. Equality Florida quickly organized a rally at the memorial, drawing support from leaders including Rep. Anna Eskamani, who called the removal “cowardly.” Despite the state’s actions, city officials vowed their commitment to honoring the 49 lives lost in 2016 “can never be erased.”
